011 [Action/Voice]
[There’s such a depressed pall hanging over Luceti recently. Coming and goings from the village are common, but the disappearances have really taken their toll recently. So many in such a short period of time – mainstays and pillars of the community – just gone and the wave of them does not feel like it has subsided quite yet.
It sucks whatever joy there is to be had from a birthday. And Luceti? Today is one for Trafalgar Law.
He barely remembered. Not that he expects anyone else will. He’s told few and those few are all dealing with their own losses as he’s dealing with his. And with McCoy now gone, there isn’t much time to dwell on anything much as he takes over the other doctor’s share of shifts and sorts through whatever he left and was working on at the Battle Dome clinic.
Maybe it’s for the best no one will probably remember. He is in no mood for a party. But Law takes the day for himself anyway.
You can catch him in the morning around town fetching various things (namely booze), and from eleven thirty onwards into the afternoon at the docks, tending to the Shinonome so she’s ready to sail.
And before the afternoon is done, one 100% filtered message goes out over the journal to Uchiha Itachi:]
Care to join me down at the docks? Dress warmly and you might want to set out Amaya’s dinner for the night… and the next morning. There’s a nice wind tonight for a trip.
[He promised you a sail, remember?]
Oh, and Itachi? Would you bring along a bottle or two of your favorite drink? I figure it’s a night for it.

[Making a sound that begins as how so and ends in mild surprise as a dolphin leaps out of the water with a mackerel in its mouth before snapping it up.
They're pretty much onto one of the richer fishing ground in this enclosed sea. And it's getting darker. He can start to see stars.]
... you getting hungry?
[This is not a momentary subject change, nooooo.]
[action]
[He has to admit it can be nice just eating when normal people eat rather than whenever is convenient on the road.]
[action]
[It's nice he's able to cook and share a meal at sea. Nostalgic and achingly normal, and a man like him was never meant to be landlocked so long.
Well. As normal as it got for two people who were far from the norm and from wildly different worlds. Which, considering Luceti, was practically its picture.]
[action]
Let me know if I can be of use in any way.
[action]
Otherwise I can't force her into a holding pattern when we heave to.
[He briefly explains what actually heaving to is. A handy trick for sailors needing to stop their crafts and keeping them at an angle where the waves could break against the hull as safely as possible.]
It's always easier to trim them with two people.
[action]
From his reactions, it's hard to tell he can barely see.]
[action]
Law knows him and is seasoned, and seeing Itachi move both underlines the fact he is practically blind and how much he doesn't need sight at all. He simply sees in other ways.
It's pretty damn amazing.
But between them they get the boat turned and angled into the wind, and the jibs backwinded to counterbalance the mainsail and the topsail. Locked in place and as Law lashes the till in position, there's only one thing left to do.
Set anchor.]
Why don't you go below? I'll just set anchor and be right behind you.
[action]
[Itachi nods and goes to do just that.]
[action]
There's the sound of a controlled splash in the water, and then the whisper of rope being carefully lowered. ... easy now... don't want to foul the shanks.
Bootsteps sound on the steps soon after.]
Aa. Knew I was forgetting something. Gotta get some light in this place.
[Cooking in the dark is a bit tricky, especially in a new galley, when you're used to being able to see what you're doing.]
[action]
[Itachi hadn't even realized it was dark, which bothered him just a little more than it should have. He does not, however, give into the temptation to flick his Sharingan back on.]
If I'd known, I would have lit them for you.
[action]
... it's difficult to sense unease from you though. Even more so without Haki. But this time he picks it up.]
It's alright. I don't usually have the lanterns lit unless someone's going to be down here. Fire risk and all.
[The room suddenly brightens considerably. Funny how light magic was supposed to be the hardest disciplines to learn, and yet he had less trouble with it than Eferin's flames.
Now that he could actually see, the cabin lanterns started to spring to life, flames beginning to dance on the wicks of the candles inside.]
[action]
[He tilts his head slightly as the magic gets the lanterns lit.]
Impressively controlled.
[action]
[Control generally has never been a problem for him - the other areas of fire are much more trouble (endurance, power, at one time even getting a spark) - but never control. Multiple candles to light are... difficult, even with that.
Good practice for him in other words.]
[action]
[The Uchiha mostly formed balls of fire. Only the truly talented could pull off more complicated jutsus than that.]
[action]
... dunno if it's really control in the end. Sometimes it feels simply more like guiding.
[Opening up a cupboard. Cutting board, cutting board, where's my cutting board.]
[action]
[He listens silently as Law goes about getting things ready for their meal.]
Is there anything I can help with?
[action]
There's a cooler next to the sink. Could you grab that? I prepared most of the stuff in there already, but I left a few vegetables untouched. In there, on the top, should be some cabbage, eggplant, and potatoes. They just need to be sliced up, please.
[He has the vegetable stock and the ginger out. As well the salt, sugar, and sake. He needs to get at the red and yellow miso in the cooler though before preparing the soup portion of the dish. But in the meantime he can fetch a saucepan, and put that stock over medium heat on the range to bring to a near boil.]
It's getting chillier out, so I thought a vegetable and tofu hot pot would be nice.
[There's vegetables and tofu wrapped in cling wrap with the untouched produce. Carrots, and mushrooms (shiitake and enokidake), and green and white onions, squash, neatly sliced for the pot. Snap peas. Ramen noodles. And a small smattering of condiments - sliced pickled daikon, a bit of green onion held from the pot, grated Red Maple radish, tiny lemon wedges, and of course, a little soy sauce.]
[action]
This is one blind man you don't have to worry about when it comes to handling blades.
He chops up each vegetable, separating the bits into neat individual piles.]
[action]
[Meanwhile, while the rest of the vegetables are being sliced, Law is combining the red and yellow miso in a medium sized bowl off to the side. He adds in a small amount of the heated stock to the paste, whisks it together until it is well mixed, and pours the mixture back into the remaining vegetable stock. He then whisks in a pinch of salt to taste, a tablespoon of sugar, and a fourth of a cup of sake.
The range's heat is turned to low for the liquid to simmer.]
[action]
It already smells appetizing.
[action]
Mm mm. [Coming back. Long legs cross the distance in only a few steps.] It does. I think this recipe's a keeper.
[The condiments, the ramen, and any of the pre-cut vegetables that Law did earlier and are not already on the board, find their way onto it quickly for ease of carrying to the table.
Another bottle of sake is fished out of the cupboards, and since the sakazuki are already out from earlier, he won't pull out any of his ochoko. Instead he pulls out lacquered bowls and chopsticks for both of them.
There will be tea and fruit later.]
